I am a huge Steven Soderbergh fan. I loved Magic Mike and I'm exited for his next film, Side Effects, originally titled, The Bitter Pill. Here is a new poster and the first trailer for the film:
Here is the first trailer for Chan-Wook Park's new English language film, Stoker. Park is the director of some amazing South Korean films, such as Oldboy and the rest of the Vengeance Trilogy. Stoker will be released on March 1, 2013.
Here is the poster and new UK trailer for Jacques Audiard's new film Rust and Bone, starring Marion Cotillard (Midnight In Paris) and Matthias Schoenaerts (Bullhead). The film opens in the US on November 16th. I am a huge admirer of the director's work (The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet) and I'm certain this film will be just as good as the buzz from Cannes predicts.
*UPDATE - Unfortunately the trailer has been taken down, but you can watch a different trailer on YouTube here.*
Here is a roundup of some new trailers for documentaries that have been released recently or are coming out soon.
The Ambassador looks like it's one of the craziest documentary ideas of all time.
Another great looking documentary is The Imposter, about a boy who went missing and came back some years later...but was it really him who returned to his family?
A new documentary about film vs. digital technology is called Side By Side. It's produced by Keanu Reeves and includes interviews with David Fincher, Steven Soderbergh, Lena Dunham, and a lot more. I highly suggest renting it from iTunes.
The last of the documentary trailers is for a great film I saw at the LA Film Festival called The House I Live In about the war on drugs. I think it should be required viewing.
Keeping track of new film posters is something I enjoy quite a bit. The quality of the posters and trailers have a huge effect on the success of any movie. Here are a few good posters that were just released.
First is the most recent poster for Rian Johnson's new film, Looper. I can't explain how exited I am for this. Johnson has created two amazing features in the past and I know this will turn out to be one of the best time travel films of all time and space.
Next is the poster for the new film from In Bruges director, Martin McDonagh. The movie is called Seven Psychopaths and promises to be just as crazy as his previous effort. Also included below is the trailer.
Killing Them Softly is the new Brad Pitt vehicle by director, Andrew Dominik. I really like the simplicity of this poster and the text. I think it's better than the original poster with the gun and sunglasses.
The Refinery recently created this great poster for The Hunter, starring Willem Dafoe. It was directed by the relatively unknown, Daniel Nettheim and based on the novel by Julia Leigh. Leigh recently wrote and directed the beautiful and haunting, Sleeping Beauty. The Hunter will be released in the US sometime soon.
Mel Gibson is getting his ass kicked by Mexicans. Does that sentence make you want to see a new movie written by and starring Mel Gibson? At least one studio thinks that people will want to rent this movie. It's called, Get the Gringo (previously, How I Spent My Summer Vacation) and it's going straight to Video-On-Demand. It was completed back in 2010 before his embarrassingly public marital problems...to put it lightly. After two years, hopefully the public has calmed down and forgotten that Mel Gibson hates Jewish people. Check out the trailer below and decide how much Gibson you can tolerate.
